When Hanuman saved the life of Ram

Let us tell you that you know this truth but it is an incomplete truth. Aren’t you surprised? But in the story we are going to tell you from the verses of Valmiki Ramayana, Hanuman ji goes to Lanka not once, but twice to bring Sanjivani Booti. Another thing is that according to Valmiki Ramayana, it was not Meghnad but Ravan who hit Lakshman with Shaktibaan. But we will tell you this story through another video. For now, let us focus on the story of Sanjivani Booti.

So according to the story is given in Sarg 74 and 75 of Valmiki Ramayana’s Yuddhakand, when Ravan sent Meghnad to the war for the second time, Meghnad had made the entire Vaanar Sena, including Shri Ram and Lakshman, unconscious. Only Jambavant, Vibhishan, and Hanuman ji were saved from the wrath of Meghnad’s arrow. Sri Rama and Lakshman fainted because they had taken Meghnad’s arrow in their chest to save the lives of the Vaanars.

When Shri Ram and Lakshman fainted along with the Vaanars, the injured Jambavant orders Hanuman ji to go to the Himalayas and bring four herbs – Mrut Sanjivani, Vishalyakarni, Suvarnakarni and Sandhani

According to this Shlok, Jambavant does not ask Hanuman to bring just the Sanjivani Booti but also asks him to bring three more herbs. The other three herbs were Vishalyakarni, Suvarnakarni, and Sandhani.

Any unconscious or dead person can be revived with Mrut Sanjivani Booti. The wounds which were caused by the attack of weapons were healed quickly with Vishalyakarni Booti. The miracle of Suvarnakarni Booti was that, by its use, health would be restored to the body immediately and energy would come back into the body. While the broken bones could be joined immediately with Sandhani Booti.

Mahavir Hanuman ji flies towards the Himalayas at the behest of Jambavant ji. But not being able to identify the herbs, he brings the whole mountain back. After consuming these herbs, the entire Vaanar Sena, including Shri Ram and Lakshman, becomes healthy again. According to this context, Sanjivani Booti was not only used for Laxman ji but also for Shriram ji.

This is the first story of Mahavir Hanuman ji fetching Himalaya mountain for Sanjivani. But after this, when Meghnad is killed by Lakshman, Ravan himself enters the battlefield. According to Valmiki Ramayan, Ravan uses the Shaktibaan made by the demon Maya on Lakshman ji, which hits Lakshman ji’s chest, and Lakshman ji faints-

This means- Ravan aimed at Lakshman that incomparable enemy slayer force created by Mayasur’s illusion, prepared for eight hours, which was making horrible noises and blazing with its brilliance.

तावणेन रणे शक्तिः क्रुद्धेनाशीविषोपमा |
मुक्ताशूरस्यभीतस्य लक्ष्मणस्य ममज्ज सा || ६-१००-३४

That is – The force fired by Ravan was like a poisonous snake. When Ravan, enraged on the battlefield, released it, that arrow sank into the chest of the brave Lakshman.

As soon as Lakshman ji faints, Shri Ram starts lamenting with grief. After this, once again on the advice of Vaanar Vaidya Sushen, Mahavir Hanuman ji goes to the Himalayas and brings Sanjivani Booti. After this, Lakshman ji’ regains his consciousness and he gets ready for war again.

Before saying goodbye, let us tell you two more things, in Ramayan, even before the battle of Ram with Ravan, the task of bringing these herbs was assigned to a Vaanar named Sampati. Perhaps he could not find those herbs. Another thing is that along with Sanjeevani Booti, these three herbs are also mentioned in Mahabharat.
